Abstract: The aerated filter with porous ironrich media has a good phosphorus removal performance. Mechanism of phosphorus removal with porous ironrich media was discussed on theoretical analysis and verified with experiments on iron bacteria determination,scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectrum analysis. The results showed that phosphorus removal with porous ironrich was a chemical precipitation. There was biological oxidation of iron bacteria in the valent state transformation of iron. Basic iron phosphate was the primary constituent of precipitate.
