Reduction of m-chloronitrobenzene by zero-valent iron in soil

  • The reduction of m-chloronitrobenzene in soil by zero-valent iron (ZVI) at normal temperature and pressure was studied. The experimental results demonstrated that ZVI could reduce m-chloronitrobenzene (MCNB) efficiently. No dechlorinated product of MCNB was observed. The reduction rates increased with higher dosages of ZVI, higher reaction temperature and higher soil water contents, but decreased with increasing soil pH. When the initial concentration of MCNB was 2.5×10-6 mol/g, the dosage of ZVI was 25 mg/g the content of water was 0.75 mL/g, and the initial pH of soil was 6.8, the reduction rate of m-chloronitrobenzene was 92.75% after a incubation at (25±1)℃ in 5 hours.

Abstract: The reduction of m-chloronitrobenzene in soil by zero-valent iron (ZVI) at normal temperature and pressure was studied.
