Abstract: Activated carbon was prepared by using rice straw as raw material under the nitrogen atomosphere condition at 200, 300, 400, 500℃, respectively. The morphology and surface chemical properties of activated carbon were characterized by using TG/DTG, Boehm titration, BET specific surface area test and industrial analysis. The adsorption effect on the removal of SO2 gas from raw straw, carbonized straw, ethylenediamine-based straw and ethylenediamine-carbonized straw were compared respectively. The results showed that the char yield of activated carbon decreased as the temperature increased. With a rise in carbonization temperature, pH value and ash of activated carbon increased while volatile content declined. The acidic functional groups reduced, while the basic functional groups increased on the surface of activated carbon. The results showed that the desulphurization effect of ethylenediamine-based carbonized straw was obvious, and the saturated sulfur capacity reached 176.4 mg ·g-1.It was feasible to apply modified activated carbon from rice straw to flue gas desulfurization by this study.
