  • In this study, lab-scale up-flow biofilter reactor fed with the oxidation ditch backflow sludge was used to start-up the anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) process under normal temperature and low substrate concentration. Firstly, aerobic nitration biofilm was cultivated, and then Anammox biofilm was cultivated under anaerobic condition. The influent pH of 7.50~7.80, NH4+-N of 30~40 mg/L, NO2--N of 35~50 mg/L and temperature of 20~25℃ were controlled in this study. After 224 days of operation, the Anammox reactor was started up successfully. In the stable operation stage, the average concentration of effluent NO2--N and NH4+-N were 1.4 mg/L and 4.6 mg/L, respectively, the removal rate of NO2--N and NH4+-N were 95.3% and 90.1%, respectively. The removal proportion of NO2--N/NH4+-N was 1~1.8∶1 and the main focused on 1.4~1.5∶1. The removal volume loading rate of NO2--N and NH4+-N were 104.2 mg/(L·d) and 146.0 mg/(L·d), respectively.
