Abstract: The spent acidic etchant is a kind of industrial wastewater with strong acidity and high copper concentration that generated in manufacturing process of printed circuit board, so its recovery has high economic value. The simulated spent acidic etchant was treated by membrane electrolysis, and copper powder was recovered in the cathodic area. The formation condition of copper powder, and effects of copper concentration of the catholyte, electrolytic temperature, current density of cathode on cathodic current efficiency were investigated. The results showed that copper concentration of the catholyte was 20~25 g/L, temperature was 45~50℃, current density of cathode was 11~12 A/dm2, the highest current efficiency of cathode occurs. The copper purity became high with increasing of the catholyte acidity, but the current efficiency would decrease. When the acidity of the catholyte was 0.32~0.36 mol/L, both high current efficiency and purity of copper were high.
