Study on cause of scale formation and control countermeasures for wastewater from waste paper papermaking

  • The wastewater generated from waste paper papermaking industry located in Wuxi was treated by the anaerobic-aerobic-chemical coagulation process.The effluent caused serious scaling problems of discharge tank. Major ion concentrations of wastewater of each treatment sections were analyzed for studying scaling components,mechanism and how to prevent it.The main component of scale was CaCO3 based on analytical results which caused by the wastewater containing high concentration of calcium and bicarbonate ions.Higher temperature,pH,flow velocity,flow status, and roughness on the surface of tank wall,and PAC dosage rate were major factors.The best control was using Ca(OH) 2 + PAM as coagulation reagent instead of PAC+ PAM. It ensured that COD discharge standard was met and the scaling problems of effluent discharge tank was solved.
