Abstract: Amine resin was prepared via the reaction between chloromethylated polystyrene resin and diethylenetriamine under refluxing conditions. Adsorption properties for Cd2+ and Ni2+ were described. Results showed that amino groups were successfully grafted on resin surface and the content of amino groups in the grafted resin was 5.6 mmol/g. The adsorption isotherms of Cd2+ and Ni2+ over amine resin were measured. Temperature rising was advantageous to adsorption. Cd2+ and Ni2+ adsorption behaviors could be well described using the Langmuir adsorption model. Heavy metals adsorption capacities were dependent on solution pH. The best adsorption behaviors of the resin were observed in pH ranging from 4 to 6. The kinetics of Cd2+ and Ni2+ adsorption onto the amine resin could be well described by pseudo-second order kinetics model.
