Abstract: The batch respirometric method was applied for the determination of the concentrations and the maximum specific growth rate (μA) of autotrophic biomass (XA) in mixed liquors from aerobic tanks of a fullscale wastewater treatment plant with anaerobic/anoxic/aerobic process and a pilot-scale anaerobic/aerobic process. The results indicate that XA accounts for 1.60%~2.34% of the mixed liquors volatile suspended solids in the activated sludge system, whereas the measured values of μA are 0.69~0.76 d-1, which are good in repeatability and in close agreement with the reported values, indicating the precision and correctness of the experimental method.
